Adriana Asare Ampene has been a dedicated Nuclear Regulatory Officer and a member of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Department since the establishment of Ghana’s Nuclear Regulatory Authority in 2015. Prior to this, she earned an MPhil in Radiation Protection from the University of Ghana’s School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences in Accra. Her research, which focused on the structural shielding of CT facilities, has received numerous citations. To complement her research interests, she obtained a certificate in Occupational Safety and Health from the Institute of Commercial Management, UK, in 2012. Before enrolling in the MPhil programme, she graduated from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with a BSc in Physics.
Her current research interests lie in establishing Diagnostic Reference Levels for mammography machines to improve Ghanaian women’s experience with breast cancer screening and diagnosis. Passionate about this, she is currently writing her doctoral thesis in the field at her alma mater. She is a collaborative team player who has published widely with fellow researchers, focusing on shielding, radiation protection, and safety.
She was a member of the Local Organizing Committee of the AFRIRPA06 Congress held in Accra in 2022. When not engaged in scientific work, she manages the finances of the Ghana Association for Radiation Protection (GARP) and volunteers as a Sunday School teacher at a thriving church in Accra.
