Ms. Rita Kwabea Osei

Assistant Treasurer

Rita Kwabea Osei is a Nuclear Regulatory Officer with the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA) of Ghana, where she has served since its establishment in 2015. She works within the Radiological and Non-Ionising Applications Directorate, contributing to the regulatory oversight of radioactive sources and radiation-emitting devices across the country through inspections and the review of authorization documents. Collaborating with colleagues and key stakeholders, she promotes national and facility-level emergency preparedness and response for radiological and nuclear incidents. She has also contributed to research on the environmental radiological impact and risk assessment of natural radioactivity at a goldmine in Ghana.

Rita holds an MPhil in Radiation Protection from the University of Ghana, obtained through the School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences. Her thesis, titled “Patient-Specific Radiation Dose and Cancer Risk in Computed Tomography Examinations in Selected CT Facilities in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana,” has received significant academic recognition. She earned her BSc in Physics from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and is currently pursuing a PhD in Radiation Protection, focusing on Bayesian modeling for dose and cancer risk estimation in CT. She has benefited from several professional development and capacity-building events in radiological safety organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

An accomplished researcher and inspector, Rita specializes in CT imaging safety, radiation shielding, and X-ray diagnostics. She currently serves as the Assistant Treasurer of the Ghana Association for Radiation Protection (GARP) and is passionate about promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education among girls.
